Where to Shop for Your Senior Pictures | Clarkston, MI Senior Photographer
By Kat Figlak – Kat Figlak Photography

One of the most exciting parts of planning your senior pictures is choosing what to wear. Your outfit plays a huge role in how your images look and feel, and it’s one of the best ways to showcase your personality during your session. As a Clarkston, MI senior photographer, I’ve worked with so many amazing seniors, and one question I get all the time is: “Where should I shop for my senior pictures?”

The good news is — you have so many great options, both online and locally here in Metro Detroit. But before we dive into where to shop, I want to share something even more important.

Your Style Comes First

Before you even start shopping, think about you.

Your senior photos should reflect your personality and your style — not someone else’s. If you’re not comfortable in what you’re wearing, it will show in your photos. The best outfits are the ones that make you feel confident, relaxed, and like your true self.

Whether your style is casual, trendy, athletic, preppy, or minimal, we’ll build your session around that.

I always tell my seniors: don’t try to completely reinvent yourself for photos. Instead, choose outfits that feel like an elevated version of your everyday style.

What to Avoid

While I want your outfits to feel like you, there are a few things I recommend avoiding to keep your images looking timeless:

  • Heavy or busy patterns

  • Large, bold logos

  • Neon or overly bright colors

  • Trendy pieces that may feel dated quickly

These elements can distract from you — and my goal is always to keep the focus on your face, your expression, and your personality.

Simple, clean, and well-fitted pieces always photograph beautifully.

Local Shopping: Somerset Collection Mall (Troy, MI)

If you’re looking for a great in-person shopping experience, the Somerset Collection is one of my top recommendations for senior outfits. It has such a wide range of stores, making it easy to find something that fits your style perfectly.

Here are a few of my favorite stops inside Somerset:

  • Zara – Perfect for trendy, modern pieces with clean lines. Zara has great options for both guys and girls who want a fashion-forward look without going over the top.

  • Aritzia – If you love soft neutrals, elevated basics, and effortless style, Aritzia is a dream. Their pieces photograph beautifully and feel timeless.

  • Nordstrom – A go-to for a variety of styles. Whether you’re looking for something casual, dressy, or somewhere in between, Nordstrom has great options (and helpful stylists if you need guidance).

  • Lululemon – For my athletic or casual seniors, Lululemon is perfect for a clean, polished athleisure look that still feels put together.

  • Abercrombie & Fitch – This is one of my favorite places for seniors right now. They’ve really elevated their style with simple, flattering pieces that photograph incredibly well.

Shopping in person allows you to try things on, see how they fit, and build outfits that feel cohesive. It’s also a fun experience to bring a friend or parent along and make a day out of it.

Online Stores I Love for Senior Outfits

If you prefer shopping from home (or want even more variety), there are some amazing online options as well.

Here are a few of my favorites:

  • Princess Polly – Great for trendy pieces, especially for seniors who want something a little more fun and stylish. Just be mindful to keep patterns minimal.

  • Revolve – A higher-end option with beautiful, fashion-forward pieces. Perfect if you want a more editorial or elevated look.

  • ASOS – Tons of variety here for both guys and girls. You can find everything from casual basics to statement outfits.

  • H&M – Affordable, simple, and easy to mix and match. Great for layering and building multiple looks.

  • Free People – Perfect for a soft, boho-inspired look. Their pieces photograph beautifully in outdoor sessions.

When shopping online, I always recommend ordering a few options and trying them on ahead of your session. This gives you time to see what fits best and what you feel most confident in.

Don’t Forget About Personal Touches

Some of the most meaningful senior photos come from incorporating pieces that represent your life right now.

If you’re involved in sports, bringing your uniform is a great idea. Whether it’s a jersey, cheer uniform, or dance outfit, these images tell part of your story and celebrate all the hard work you’ve put in over the years.

Your letterman jacket is another amazing option. It’s such a classic piece that represents your high school experience, and it always photographs so well.

I love mixing these personal elements with more styled outfits to create a gallery that feels complete and meaningful.

How Many Outfits Should You Bring?

For most senior sessions, I recommend bringing 2–3 outfits.

This gives us enough variety without feeling rushed or overwhelming. A great combination might look like:

  • One casual outfit

  • One dressy or elevated look

  • One personal outfit (sports uniform, jacket, etc.)

We’ll plan everything ahead of time so your outfits feel cohesive and work well with your session location.

Final Thoughts

Choosing your senior outfits doesn’t have to be stressful — it should actually be one of the most fun parts of the experience.

Remember:

  • Stay true to your style

  • Keep things simple and timeless

  • Avoid distractions like bold logos and busy patterns

  • Choose pieces that make you feel confident

As your Clarkston, MI senior photographer, I’m here to help guide you through every step — including outfit planning. I want you to walk into your session feeling excited, prepared, and completely yourself.

Because at the end of the day, the best senior photos aren’t just about what you’re wearing.

They’re about you — your personality, your story, and this incredible moment in your life.

If you’re ready to start planning your senior session, I would love to help you create something amazing.
